What video formats do you offer?

We offer our videos in industry standard MPEG 4 Part 10 encoding (also known as H.264). This video encoding can be played in the latest versions of Apple QuickTime, VLC and many other players. You can also watch our videos via an online streaming player that uses Adobe Flash 9

What video players support MPEG 4 Part 10 encoding (also known as H.264)?

If you are running Windows XP, Vista, or Mac OS 10.5, we highly suggest using Quicktime/Itunes to play our downloadable video library. If Quicktime is not your cup of tea, VLC is also strongly recommended.

Why did you choose MPEG 4 Part 10 (H.264) and what makes it special?

H.264 is a modern codec that offers some of the best open-standard compression on the market. This newer codec was adopted by the BlueRay and HD-DVD standards for delivering the best quality video to High Definition television sets. It offers better quality, vivid color, and smaller download size than any previous compression format on the market. The format is beautifully supported by Quicktime 7, but since it's developed in an open-committee anyone can develop a H.264 player. This means that as time marches on there should be almost universal support for this codec in your favorite media players. Also, in side-by-side testing at our offices we found H.264 to be noticeably clearer and have better color quality than previous encodings we have used. The clearer videos make our former codecs pale in comparison. Additionally, the new encoding gives us smaller file sizes so that our videos can be downloaded quicker!

Can I play H.264 video in Windows Media Player?

No, not natively. Right now, Microsoft is blocking H.264 from running in Windows Media Player, even if you install a third party codec. They have been trying to kill the open source codec to force people to use their proprietary one. Microsoft has promised support for h.264 in the future. I will post updates in the forum if they do change their policy

How can I transfer the videos to the iPhone/iPod?

Easy! First you need to download the "Good" quality video to your local hard disk. Then, find the file and drag-and-drop it into the iTunes window. iTunes will add the video to your library and then you can sync the video with your video iPod, iPhone, or iPod Touch. Please note: that the larger, "Best" quality video, are too high quality for iPods and iPhones. You must download the "Good" quality. Additionally, streaming to iPhones and iPod Touch inside the mobile Safari browser is not supported by the iPhone/iPod operating system.

Do you have Recommended System Requirements?

We recommend a broadband Internet connection and a Macintosh or PC running a processor of 1.5GHZ or faster.

Does Baretwinks offer Macintosh support?

Yes! Macintoshes come natively with Quicktime 7 and can easily play our entire video library. We support Macs running Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, and 10.5 Leopard.

Does Baretwinks offer Linux support?

Kinda. If you’re running Linux, I'm sure you already know a few things about computers and playing video on your system. We do not offer technical support for Linux computers, but we do know of several Linux software packages that will play our entire video library.

I have dial-up, should I buy a subscription?

Our website is optimized for a broadband connections, so you will need to keep in mind that video files are large in size and may take a long time to download. Outside of that, dial-up users should be able to use all of our features, but we wouldn't recommend it. Instead I would suggest buying the DVD's

How fast can I download the videos??

We use a global content delivery network for super fast downloads. Some users have had speeds as high as 1500kbps

What is your password policy?

Baretwinks.com makes use of password security monitoring software. This software watches for multiple, simultaneous logins from different computers to flag hacked passwords. If your password is hacked, your account will be placed on hold. If this happens, please email support@baretwinks.com so your password can be changed and you can regain access. Securing your account is your responsibility! Do not share your password with anyone. If you would like tips on creating a secure password, please see below.

How can I create a secure password?

When selecting a secure password try to avoid simple words and names. Try not to use dictionary words, or passwords that contain all numbers. Use as many special characters, letters, and numbers combined in a seemingly random way as you can remember. To make it easier to remember, tie your password to a phrase or song lyric. For instance, "Hail, hail the lucky ones, I refer to those in love" could become "H,hTL0,IR2t1L." Notice how the commas were retained, and some of the letters were replaced with similar numbers. If you would like more information, try a Google search for "good password tips."

I'm having trouble with my password! Help?!

First, check that you’re capitalizing both your username and password correctly. Bob, BOB, bOB, and bob are four different usernames and will be treated as such by our security software. Check your welcome email for the proper capitalization of both your username and your password. Multiple incorrect tries will disable your password for about an hour or two. If you get panicky, you might be locked out even with correct login information.

Our customer support representatives will work diligently to address your queries within 48 hours, times may be slightly longer on weekends and holidays
